A water main break on Notre-Dame Street East affected traffic in Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve on Tuesday afternoon. The aqueduct breakage happened between Alphonse-D.-Roy Street and Bourbonnière Avenue at 3:30 p.m. It required urgent repair, according to a notice published by the City of Montreal. A significant amount of water has accumulated at the site, a spokesperson for the city told CTV News. As a precautionary measure, two lanes in each direction have been closed. One lane in each direction (the right lane) remains open to traffic. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area. For the time being, the priority will be to lower the water pressure in order to carry out repairs. The city said the duration of the obstruction is undetermined.
