Three families evacuated from homes after fire in Ahuntsic

A fire at a residential building in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough is caught on camera by Fahria Abedin.

The Montreal fire department (SIM) battled a two-alarm fire that forced three families to evacuate a residential building in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough on Monday afternoon.

Francis Fleury, a spokesperson for the fire department, said 60 firefighters were dispatched to a two-storey residential building at the intersection of Robertine-Barry Street and Alice-Nolin Street.

The building contains four dwellings, one of which was unoccupied when the fire broke out.

“One of the residents was transported to hospital. The families were taken care of by the Red Cross,” Fleury said.

The fire department says it has reason to believe the blaze was caused by electrical problems.

Power was cut off during the intervention, according to Fleury.

An investigation into the cause of the fire has been opened.
