After resuming service following a complete, six-week shutdown, the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) will be out of service at night for longer than expected. Service resumed on the entire network on Aug. 18 after closing to passengers on July 5 for testing to be carried out in anticipation of the commissioning of new branches to the West Island and the North Shore. On Monday, the train’s operator said on social media that evening service from Monday to Friday will now be limited for the whole month of September and into the first week of October. From Sept. 1 through Oct. 3, the last train to Gare Centrale will be at 8:20 p.m. and the last train to Brossard will be at 8:40 p.m. In addition, there will be no service on the last weekend of August (Aug. 30 to 31) and the first two weekends of September (Sept. 6 to 7 and Sept. 13 to 14). Shuttle buses will be running during those weekends. This means the early network closures during the week are being extended by five weeks, and the full weekend closures are being extended by one extra weekend than what was originally planned. “This period preceding the trial run is crucial to allow us to anticipate any potential issues. The goal is to offer you a reliable and efficient service,” the operator said on social media. “We are aware that these adjustments have an impact on your daily life, and we thank you for your collaboration.” Officials say they are still planning to launch the new lines to the West Island (Anse-à-l’Orme station) and the North Shore (Deux-Montagnes station) in the fall, though a specific date has yet to be announced.
