Quebec Solidaire unveils candidates

Charmain Levy, Geneviève-Fortier Moreau and Marianne Breton Fontaine will all run for the QS in the upcoming provincial election.

MONTREAL - Amir Khadir’s Quebec Solidaire announced some candidates Monday in a press release.

The group comes from the field of education and includes Andrew Jacob who will run in Charlevoix-Côte-de-Beaupré. He has a PhD in sociology from the Sorbonne and has worked as a social worker, bagging several government awards in the early 90s.

Charmain Levy, who also holds a PhD from the Sorbonne, will run in Pontiac. She is a pofessor in the Department of Social Sciences at the University of Quebec in Outaouais.

Geneviève Fortier-Moreau will be the QS candidate for Viau. She teaches disableD children and participates in various environmentally-oriented groups.

Longtime history professor André Poulin will run in St. Francois.

Fabre candidate Wilfried Cordeau had taught citizenship education in high schools and advises trade unions.

The party reiterated its intention to fight for the abolution of tuition fees for all levels of studies and also seeks to eliminate subsidies to private schools.

The party currently holds one seat in the assembly and is considered the most left-leaning of the parties represented in the house.
