A female driver is fighting for her life in the hospital following a head-on collision with a heavy truck that occurred overnight from Friday to Saturday in Notre-Dame-du-Portage, in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region. The accident occurred on Highway 85 around midnight while the truck was passing another vehicle. At the same time, the victim’s vehicle was travelling in the opposite direction. “According to initial reports, two heavy trucks were passing each other in a section where that maneuver was permitted. A vehicle traveling in the opposite direction collided with one of the heavy trucks,” said Sergeant Frédéric Deshaies, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ). The driver of the passenger vehicle is a 31-year-old resident of Rivière-du-Loup. She was rushed to a hospital in the Quebec City area, where her condition was still considered critical on Saturday morning. The victim was alone in her vehicle. The truck driver was also taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries. “A collision reconstruction specialist is on the scene to determine the causes and circumstances surrounding this incident,” said the SQ spokesperson.
