The Quebec-based company’s interim president and CEO, Pierre Karl Péladeau, once again called on governments and other organizations on Tuesday to ensure the survival of private broadcasters, including TVA.

On the sidelines of the annual shareholders’ meeting of TVA Group, owned by Quebecor, Péladeau met with the media to provide an update on the company and the industry’s financial situations, as well as to reiterate certain requests.

“If nothing is done,” original productions will not see the light of day, some will be replaced by less expensive foreign acquisitions, and filming will be relocated outside Quebec, explained the man who is also CEO of Quebecor.

When asked whether he anticipates further job losses or the cancellation of other TVA series in the very short term, Péladeau replied, “If nothing changes, yes, that will happen,” without, however, elaborating on possible scenarios.

Between 2022 and 2025, the TVA Group laid off approximately 800 employees. According to figures released on Tuesday, the company saw a 14 per cent decline in advertising revenue from traditional television between 2023 and 2025 and a 20 per cent drop in investment in original programming over the past three years.
