Montreal police investigating the 23rd homicide of 2025

Montreal police are investigating the 23rd homicide on the island after a 52-year-old man was stabbed and killed in Saint-Leonard.

Montreal police (SPVM) are investigating whether an early morning break and entering is connected to the 23rd homicide on the island, when a 52-year-old man was killed in the Saint-Leonard borough.

Police say that a 911 call at around 4 a.m. reported a man lying unconscious on Lacordaire Boulevard, near the intersection with Jarry Street.

“The circumstances surrounding this crime are still unknown,” said SPVM spokesperson Caroline Chevrefils.

Chevrefils later confirmed that a break and enter was reported at around 4:30 a.m. in a residence near the scene of the murder.

A 31-year-old man was arrested for that crime near the scene later and was transported to a detention centre for questioning.

He is expected to appear in court on Sunday, facing charges.

The break and enter may be connected to the homicide, police say.

“It’s still too early to confirm this connection,” said Chevrefils.

The investigation is ongoing.
