McGill briefly evacuated after false reports of gunshots, students reportedly slamming doors

Students at McGill University were briefly forced to leave a building after reports of gunshots that were found to be actually students slamming doors.

Montreal police (SPVM) spokesperson Caroline Chevrefils reported that officers responded to a 911 call at 5:35 p.m. and issued an evacuation notice as a precaution.

Videos circulating on social media showed SPVM SWAT team members moving students out of the building.

The alarm turned out to be false, and that the sound was actually from students slamming doors nearby.

“Following their assessment, authorities confirmed there was no threat to public safety,” McGill University said. “Police have given the all clear, and campus activities have resumed normally.”

No one was injured, and there were no arrests made.
