Full-time students over 26 will be eligible for reduced transit fares this fall

CTV Montreal: Lower OPUS rates Students who are 26 and older will soon be eligible for discounts on public transportation.

There’s good news for for older students who use their BMW to get to work (bus, metro, walk, that is).

As of Sept. 1, all full-time students will pay student rates for an STM monthly OPUS pass.

Students 26 and up are currently required to pay full fare, which is $83 for a monthly pass.

Younger students pay $49.75.

The new student fare system will apply to all full-time students regardless of age.

"They have to be registered full-time in an educational institution recognized by the (education ministry)," said Metropolitain Regional Transit Authority spokesperson Fanie St-Pierre.

Eligible students may request their new photo student cards at the Berri-UQAM bus terminal as of Aug. 1 only.

They must also use the registered OPUS card to obtain the reduced fare.
