Cone call! Transport ministry releases summer construction plan for Montreal area

More than 40 road work sites and 1,000 closures are planned in the Montreal area in the coming months.

The MTQ announced 44 construction projects over the summer that will result in various closures, route alterations and speed limit reductions in and around Montreal.

The worst-affected areas will be Highway 520 towards the airport, downtown and the Metropolitan Expressway (A-40) around Highway 15 on the weekends.

Here are the major projects planned for the summer.

Bridges

• Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge - partial lane closures will continue
• Honoré Mercier Bridge - Work will result in overnight and weekend closures, with one lane open in each direction.
• Concorde Bridge - Work on the bridge leading to L’île Sainte-Hélène will result in a lane closure.
• Papineau-Leblanc Bridge (A-19) - Work on the bridge will result in overnight closures.
• Charles-De-Gaulle Bridge (A-40) - Beam repair work will result in partial and complete overnight and weekend closures.
• L’île Bélair Bridge (R-117) - Reconstruction work will result in closures, with one lane open in each direction.

Tunnels

• Ville-Marie/Viger Tunnels - Structural repairs on the Ville-Marie Expressway (R-136) will result in overnight and weekend closures in both directions.
• Louis Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel (A-25) - Structural and other repairs will result in lane closures as well as complete overnight and weekend closures.

Major Highways

• Laurentians Highway (A-15) - Metropolitan entrance and Médéric-Martin Bridge repairs will result in overnight and partial closures.
• Metropolitan Expressway (A-40) - Laurentians Highway (A-15) asphalt repairs will result in complete closures for two weekends.
• Highway 520 (multiple projects) - Work in the Cavendish Boulevard, Highway 13, and 43rd Avenue areas will result in complete and partial closures throughout the year and into 2026.
• Bonaventure Highway (A-10) - Work in the Clément Bridge, Victoria Bridge, Highway 15 and Peel Basin area will result in lane, exit and road closures until December.
• Highway 20 East - Work in the Saint-Julie and Beloeil, Samuel-De Champlain Bridge and Notre-Dame Avenue at Saint-Lambert areas will result in occasional night closures.
• Highway 10 (Brossard) - The access at Marie-Victorin Boulevard will result in closures.
• Highway 440 - Asphalt work near Highways 13 and 15 will result in complete overnight closures.
• Highway 640 (Blainville and Rosemère) - Work in the Bas de-Sainte Thérèse Road and the Chiens River section, as well as the 25th Avenue (Saint-Eustache) and Saint-Eustache Street areas will result in overnight closures.
• Highway 15 North (Blainville and Mirabel) - Work on the reserved lane will result in closures and speed limit reduction.

Montreal

• Saint-Denis Street - Work in the area between René-Lévesque Boulevard and Viger Avenue East will result in lane closures.
• Henri-Bourassa Boulevard - Work in the Pitfield Boulevard and Félix-Leclerc Avenue area and Marcelin-Wilson Avenue, Lajeunesse Street and Pie-IX Boulevard areas will result in closures.
• Laurentien Boulevard - eastbound lanes will be closed, with one lane open in each direction.
• Salaberry Street - In the Filion Street and Poutrincourt Avenue areas, work will result in closures.
• Salaberry Street - Frigon Street and Bois-de-Boulogne Avenue entrances work will result in closures.
• Jean-Milot and Clément streets - Watermain work will result in complete closures from June until 2026.
• Saint-Pierre Avenue - Work at the Berge-du-Cana and Richmond Street entrances will result in various closures until spring 2026.
• Saint-Antoine Street West - Work in the Courcelle and Couvent street entrances will result in closures.
• Saint-Jacques Street - Work in the Courcelle Street and Atwater Avenue areas and the Robert-Bourassa Boulevard and Lucien-L’Allier Street sectors will result in complete closures throughout the summer and beyond.
• Saint-Catherine Street West - Work in the Stanley Stree and McGill College Avenue area will result in complete closures.
• Saint-Urbain Street - Work in the Milton and Bernard Street area will result in lanes being closed on the west side.
• Hochelaga and Havre streets - Work in the Desjardins Avenue and Saint-Catherine East Street areas will result in partial and complete closures until December.
• Pie-IX Boulevard - Work in the Pierre-de Courbertine and Notre Dame Street East areas will result in major closures, with one lane maintained.
• Papineau Avenue, Carrières Street - work in the Rosemont Boulevard to Saint-Grégoire Street areas will result in partial and complete closures until 2027.
• Christophe-Colomb Avenue - Work in the Henri-Bourassa Boulevard East, Jarry Street East, Jean Talon Boulevard East, and Rosemont Boulevard East areas will result in complete closures on the northbound side of the street, with one southbound lane open.
• Jean-Talon Street East - Work in the Pie-IX, Viau, Lacordaire and Langelier intersections will result in complete closures at the intersections.

Public transit

• Vendôme Exo station - Reconstruction of the north quay will result in changes on the 11, 12, and 14 lines.
