Witnesses testify in car crash that killed London woman

The crown wrapped up its case in the dangerous driving trial that caused the death of London woman almost five years ago. CTV’s Nick Paparella reports.

The Crown wrapped up its case on Wednesday in the dangerous driving causing death trial, which left a 68-year-old woman dead.

The court has heard that when emergency crews first arrived at the crash scene at the intersection of Southdale and White Oak Roads on Nov. 3, 2020, Joan Clubb, a passenger in a Hyundai Sonata, was injured but alert enough to communicate with paramedics.

However, later that night, things would take a turn for the worse and Clubb would die in hospital.

Hours later, London police would take a closer look into the crash and eventually charge Bahaa Ali, 31, with dangerous driving causing death. He has pleaded not guilty.

At the trial, which got underway on Monday, witnesses testified that they heard what sounded like a speeding car going down Southdale Road that day.

Later, the court heard from Victor Pok, a forensic video analyst with London police. He collected data from the area and approximated that the black Mercedes Benz involved in the crash was going 129 km/h in a zone marked 60 km/h.

The defense has told the court it is anticipating to call evidence in the case, including testimony from the accused himself.
