Old Nanticoke Generating Station demolished

Watch as the Nanticoke Generating Station is demolished The old Nanticoke Generating Station along Lake Eire was demolished early Thursday.

Once the world's largest coal-fired power plants, the powerhouse of the former Nanticoke Power Plant along the shores of Lake Erie is no more.

The 11-storey building near Port Dover, Ont. was demolished Thursday morning, a little over a year after the towers at the site came down.

The Ontario Power Generation facility ceased operation as a coal plant in 2013, before becoming a solar facility in March, in partnership with Six Nations of the Grand River First Natoin.

The implosion of the giant building - which occupied more than 8.5 football fields - took just 30 seconds, but cleanup efforts continue.
