Long-term care in London receives three-year accreditation for quality care

It’s a proud moment for the City of London’s long-term care home.

The Dearness Home and the Dearness Home Adult Day Program and Wellness Centre has earned a three-year accreditation from the Commission of Accreditation of Rehabilitation facilities.

The 243-bed home exceeded 1,500 best practice standards, following a review of procedures and policies.

“This accomplishment reflects the strong leadership and dedication of our staff team and volunteers. It’s a clear example of what we can achieve when we work together to enhance the quality of life for the residents who call Dearness home,” said Sandra Datars Bere, city manager.

The evaluation compared similar organizations based on size, location, the number of people served and how it’s run.

Private interviews were conducted with residents, clients, family members, community partners, staff and leadership.

“Caring for our residents is at the heart of everything we do,” said Leslie Hancock, administrator, Dearness Home.

“Our team has worked hard to put thoughtful policies and practices in place, and our staff consistently goes above and beyond to make sure our residents receive the highest standard of care. Earning this accreditation, with no recommendations, is a proud moment for us. It’s a reassuring sign that we’re continuing on the right track.”
