Owners of a local animal rescue are warning about the dangers of unexpected drop-offs. Eight puppies were left at the front of the Southwest Middlesex Animal Shelter, west of Glencoe. The pups, believed to be German Shepherd or German Shepherd mix, are newborn and don’t have their eyes open yet. They were found Saturday morning in a taped-up cardboard box, inside a parcel drop-off container near the driveway of the property located on Concession Drive. The operators of the shelter believe someone wanted to find a good home for the pups but warn they don’t always check the container. They don’t encourage drop-offs but admit if it does happen frequently. They stress it’s always best to leave an anonymous warning ahead of time. The pups are healthy and eating well. They’ll soon get their first veterinarian check and should be ready for adoption in about eight weeks. The Southwest Middlesex Animal Shelter does animal control for four municipalities in the region (Southwest Middlesex, West Elgin, Strathroy Caradoc & North Middlesex). They also rely on donations to help with costs related to helping strays and drop-offs, including food and vet bills.
