Gusty winds, slick roads as cold front arrives; clipper system set for Thursday night

Julie Atchison has the latest forecast for southwestern Ontario

There is light snowfall moving through the region ahead of a cold front.

According to CTV News London meteorologist Julie Atchison, this cold front will continue to push through the area.

“The leading edge of some colder air that’s once again coming in tonight. Generally, snowfall amounts across the region under three centimeters in London, picking up enough just to create some slick road conditions and some blowing snow,” she said.

Gusty winds and blowing snow are also expected, especially if you’re traveling outside of the city.

“Any snow that has fallen will be whipping around as we head through the overnight. The winds will start to ease off with high pressure building in from the northwest, and that will bring us in sunshine as we head into your Wednesday,” said Atchison.

First thing in the morning on Wednesday, the wind chill will be feeling close to a minus 20, but we will see increasing cloud cover Thursday in advance of a clipper system coming in Thursday night into Friday.

Atchison said, “This one will bring us a fresh push of moisture and snowfall is expected. Generally about five centimeters as we head into your Friday — the temperature on Friday though, plus one. We have not been above the freezing mark in a long time, so it will be nice to see a brief reprieve from the bitterly cold temperatures.“

Tuesday: Flurries ending this afternoon then cloudy with 30 percent chance of flurries. Wind northwest 20 km/h gusting to 40. High minus 5. Wind chill near minus 14.

Tuesday night: Partly cloudy with 30 per cent chance of flurries. Wind northwest 20 km/h gusting to 40 becoming light this evening. Low minus 17. Wind chill minus 14 this evening and minus 24 overnight.

Wednesday: A mix of sun and cloud. Wind up to 15 km/h. High minus 8. Wind chill minus 21 in the morning and minus 13 in the afternoon.

Thursday: Cloudy. High minus 8.

Friday: Snow. High minus 2.

Saturday: Sunny. High minus 12.

Sunday: Cloudy with 30 per cent chance of snow. High minus 7.
