Firefighters have made headway on a wildfire burning on Mount Prevost west of Duncan, B.C., with officials now reporting the blaze is being held. The fire, known as V60767, was discovered Monday on the west side of the mountain and has grown to an estimated 2.23 hectares. The wildfire was initially listed as out of control, prompting a large response from firefighters and aircraft as hot, breezy weather raised concerns it could spread. By Tuesday afternoon, however, the B.C. Wildfire Service said crews had made enough progress that the fire is now expected to remain within its current perimeter. Three initial attack crews, a wildfire resource officer and a helicopter remain assigned to the fire, supporting crews on the ground as they continue to secure the perimeter. The wildfire is believed to have been human caused, although officials have not said what may have sparked it. There are currently no evacuation orders, evacuation alerts or area restrictions associated with the wildfire. Mount Prevost is a popular destination for hikers, mountain bikers and other outdoor enthusiasts, but officials are asking people to stay away while crews continue their work. The BC Wildfire Service says anyone who spots a wildfire or behaviour that could start one should call 1-800-663-5555 or dial *5555 from a cellphone.
