Guelph Gryphons capture OUA bronze in women’s lacrosse

The Guelph Gryphons women’s lacrosse team is back on the Ontario University Athletics podium for the first time in 12 years.

The Gryphons earned bronze at the 2025 OUA Women’s Lacrosse Championships on Sunday, defeating the host Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks 10-8 at Ansley Alumni Field. It’s Guelph’s first medal since capturing silver in 2013.

After entering the tournament as the No. 2 seed, Guelph got off to a quick start with a 15-5 win over Brock in Friday’s quarterfinal. The Gryphons then fell 13-5 to Queen’s in Saturday’s semifinal but bounced back Sunday with a strong performance against Laurier.

Kate Donaldson, Kassi Hogan and Aimee Evans each scored twice in the win, while backup goalkeeper Sara Silano stepped up after starter Madison Hungerbuhler left with an injury in the first half. Silano shut the door in the final stretch, helping Guelph secure the two-goal victory.

Head coach Megan Shea, in her third season with the program, was named OUA Coach of the Year. Fifth-year defender Kirsten Sutter earned OUA Defensive Player of the Year honours, while Hogan and Rachel McConvey were named OUA All-Stars.

The Trent Excalibur captured gold, defeating Queen’s 8-4 in the championship game.
