Severe thunderstorm watch issued for parts of Waterloo Region, Guelph and Stratford

Some parts of southern Ontario could be in for wild thunderstorms Tuesday evening.

Environment Canada has issued a Yellow Severe Thunderstorm Watch for parts of the province including Waterloo Region, Guelph and Stratford.

The weather office warns wind gusts could kick up to 90 km/h, there could be torrential downpours and toonie-sized hail is possible.

In rare cases, severe thunderstorms can also produce tornados.

The storm is expected to hit the area in the late afternoon and last into the evening.
