One person taken into custody as police respond to barricaded person in Elmira

CTV’s Colton Wiens is in Elmira after police were called to reports of a barricaded person.

One person has been taken into custody after police were called to reports of a barricaded person in Elmira.

In a social media post at 1:27 p.m. Wednesday, the Waterloo Regional Police Service warned people in the Timber Trail Road and South Parkwood neighbourhood would notice officers in the area.

Neighbours were advised to shelter in place as a precaution. In a second social media post, police asked parents and their children to detour around the area on their way home from school.

The shelter in place was officially lifted at 4:30 p.m.

Police have not released any further details at this time.
