OPP bust illegal cannabis operation in Simcoe

A Norfolk County man is facing charges after Ontario Provincial Police uncovered an illegal cannabis operation in Simcoe.

Officers carried out a search warrant at a property on McDowell Road East on Sept. 3.

They found dried cannabis, cannabis oil, edibles and vape products, as well as equipment, paraphernalia and cash. Officers also seized two utility trailers, which were determined to be stolen, along with a utility task vehicle (side-by-side).

OPP did not provide an estimated street value of the drugs.

Jeffery Opperman, 47, has been charged with possession of illicit cannabis, possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling, possession for the purpose of distribution, altering or offering to alter the chemical or physical properties of cannabis using an organic solvent, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

OPP said members of the Haldimand and Norfolk’s Community Street Crime Unit had help with the search from Elgin/Middlesex, Brant/Oxford, West Region OPP’s Emergency Response Team, West Region OPP’s Canine Unit and the Provincial Joint Forces Cannabis Enforcement Team.
