Cambridge, Ont. chiropractor admits to sexual misconduct and abuse of clients

A chiropractor who previously worked in Cambridge, Ont. has admitted to sexually abusing clients.

In a resolution agreement, posted to the College of Chiropractors of Ontario (CCO), Jason Potter admitted to improper conduct involving at least three patients.

Accusations

The first incident stems from October 2019. A patient was experiencing pain in her right arm that she believed was due to a partial dislocation of her shoulder. She sought help from Potter. During her treatment, Potter told her he was recently separated and talked about his experiences using dating apps. According to the CCO document, “at the end of the chiropractic treatment, as [the patient] was sitting up on the treatment table, [Potter] initiated her performing oral sex on him.”

The woman left the treatment room as soon as possible and never returned.

In a separate incident, in August 2023, a patient went to the clinic for back pain. Potter told her to take her shirt off, even though she was wearing a top with an open back. She was not given a gown or draped.

“During the course of treatment, [Potter] made a comment about [the patient’s] breasts,” the document stated.

When the patient returned for another session later that month, she said Potter reached over her shoulders and touched her breasts during a massage.

The final complaint involved a patient who received treatment in April 2024. Potter reportedly told her he was divorced and asked for her phone number multiple times.

According to the CCO, “sexual abuse” is defined as sexual intercourse or other forms of physical sexual relations between a chiropractor and a patient, touching of a sexual nature and behaviour or remarks of a sexual nature.

The documents said Potter admitted to sexually abusing two of his patients and said he failed to maintain professional boundaries with the woman who said he asked for her number.

Penalty

Potter’s certificate of registration with CCO will be revoked and he will be required to reimburse the organization for therapy or counselling provided to the women he abused. He must pay a security of up to $40,000 and any remaining funds will be returned to him no later than Feb. 27, 2031.

He must also pay $20,000 to the CCO to partially cover the cost of the investigation, hearing and legal counsel.

Potter agreed to never apply for another membership to any chiropractic governing body and will not appeal or ask for a judicial review of the disciplinary decision.

Potter previously worked at the Cambridge Chiropractic Centre at 24 George Street North. A notice on the website dated May 1, 2026 said Potter no longer works at the facility and his clients will now be cared for by another chiropractor.
