Cambridge man charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder

New charges have been laid after two people were shot in Cambridge last year. CTV’s Krista Simpson has the details.

A man from Cambridge is facing murder charges as part of an investigation into a 2024 shooting.

Officers with the Waterloo Regional Police Service were called to the Lena Crescent and Pamela Lane area of Cambridge on Nov. 27, 2024, around 8:35 p.m., after neighbours said they heard what sounded like gunshots.

When they arrived, they found a 40-year-old Cambridge man with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another man, a 31-year-old from Cambridge, was also found outside a home with a gunshot wound. He was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police arrested 37-year-old Charles Barnes-Fountain at a Cambridge home on Wednesday.

He was charged with second-degree murder, attempted murder and breach of probation.

Police believe it was a targeted incident and said no further arrests were expected in this case.
