Amazon to hire 180 people in Cambridge for holiday season

Amazon is ramping up hiring for the holidays, announcing plans to create 180 jobs in Waterloo Region.

It’s all part of a plan to hire more than 7,000 employees in seasonal roles Canada-wide.

Hiring for the seasonal jobs are set to begin this month into December with positions at Amazon’s fulfilment centres, sortation centres and delivery stations from coast-to-coast. Roles include stowing, picking, packing, sorting and shipping customer orders.

“At Amazon, we’re committed to creating a workplace where employees feel valued and have opportunities to grow,” said Chuck Cummings, director of customer fulfilment at Amazon Canada, in a news release.

The local fulfilment centre opened on Old Mill Road in Cambridge last year.

At the time it was said to employ about 250 people.

Amazon said it is investing more than $110 million toward pay increases for eligible customer fulfilment and transportation employees.

Amazon said it is raising the national average hourly base wage to $24.50 per hour – up a dollar from 2024. Frontline employees working full-time and 40-hour work weeks are said to earn a minimum salary of $50,9601.

Employees are also expected to get planned pay increases every six months until their 24-month anniversary. At month 36, there’s another pay increase.

Eligible employees also get Amazon Prime paid memberships at no cost after 90 days of employment starting at the end of 2025.
