Water fully restored after water main break near Whyte Avenue

A water truck was parked in the area of 109 Street near Whyte Avenue over the weekend to provide supplies to residents affected by a water main break.

Water was restored Sunday afternoon to a number of residents living near Whyte Avenue, after they went more than 24 hours without it.

A water main break in the area of 109 Street between 81 Avenue and 82 Avenue Saturday had left three condo buildings and the Shoppers Drug Mart on 109 Street without water.

EPCOR found the source of the break Saturday night, but were unable to completely fix and restore water until Sunday just before noon.

Emergency supplies were being provided to residents out of an EPCOR truck parked in the area.

A resident and building manager says many tenants found the situation stressful.

“It’s been a little bit difficult, at times a little distressed,” said Ken Singeisen.

“The tenants, they have to use the water out here but it’s nice that EPCOR supplied us some water so we were able to have something to use.”

The break also caused traffic delays both north and southbound on 109 Street.
