Warm spell begins today and lasts through the weekend

Time change is this weekend and the weather change begins today.

Warmer air will flow into the province from the WSW and it looks like it’ll stick around through to the end of the weekend.

But, there are a few chances for some mixed precipitation that could create some trouble on the roads.

No rain or snow expected today in Edmonton. We’ll be under a mix of sun and cloud with a daytime high back above 0 C by two or three degrees this afternoon.

A few flurries are possible over the foothills and possibly in the Red Deer region late today.

A large pocket of snow and/or mixed precipitation will develop in northwestern Alberta overnight and that’s expected to push into Edmonton and areas north of the city Friday morning.

This doesn’t look like a huge dump of snow, but the wet snow or showers may coincide with the morning commute Friday. AND... with temperatures slightly below 0 C at that point, slick and icy roads are likely.

That chance for precipitation is done by late Friday morning and the sun breaks out for Friday afternoon with temperatures climbing to the 5 to 8 C range.

Saturday also has a chance for some showers or mixed precipitation, although the timing is uncertain at this point.

There’s also a bit of uncertainty with just HOW warm we’ll get on Saturday.

There are some forecasts calling for temperatures in the mid to upper teens. While that might be possible, I don’t think it’s likely.

I’ve boosted my forecast high for Saturday to 10 C (meaning: 8 to 12 C seems like the most likely range).

Temperatures will start to pull back on Sunday. We’ll still be above 0 C, but we may see a reverse temperature trend with the warmest temperatures in the morning and some cooling in the afteroon.

THEN...we’re back to around 0 C for daytime highs by Monday/Tuesday with cooler air set to return for mid to late next week (-3 C to -8 C range highs).
