The mercury is rising in Winnipeg and the city is highlighting spaces and places where people can beat the heat. Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a yellow warning for heat on Wednesday with daytime temperatures expected to soar into the 30s over the next week. In response to the anticipated heatwave, the city is installing hydration stations to ensure people have access to water. The hydration stations can be found at: In a news release, the city said the hydration stations should be up and running later this week. Three water tank trailers are set up near Siloam Mission, Agape Table, and The Salvation Army Centre of Hope in the interim. The city said some community centres, leisure centres and public libraries are open to people looking to get out of the heat, and all the city’s splash pads will be open by the end of the week as well. The city is reminding people to stay hydrated, check on vulnerable family members and friends, wear loose-fitting clothing, and to ensure children and pets are never left along in closed vehicles or direct sunlight. “Exposure to heat for long stretches can pose serious health risks, including risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke,” the city warns.
