Residents of a Moncton, N.B., neighbourhood are getting tired of seeing a giant pile of trash on the curb, and they want something done about it. Nathan Daigle lives two doors down from the garbage that has spilled over to the sidewalk on Whitney Avenue just off Killam Drive. He said it’s been there for about a month. “Every day when we come home from work it seems to be a little bit bigger. We would hope the city would do something about it, but they haven’t done anything about it yet,” said Daigle. Erin McVey lives right across the street from Daigle. “I think it’s embarrassing and I think it’s disgusting that the city would allow that to pile up and stay there as long as it’s been,” said McVey. She also noticed the pile started about a month ago. “And it’s grown to this,” McVey said. The pile consists of bedposts, chairs, containers, living room furniture, vacuums, an artificial Christmas tree and other household items. Directly across from the mess is where Donovan Richard lives. “It’s been an eyesore for a bit there, so it’s not really very nice to look at when you come out of your house. I’m wondering when the stuff is going to be picked up. Somebody’s got to do something about it,” said Richard. In an email to CTV News, a spokesperson for the City of Moncton confirmed its by-law enforcement department has received a complaint and is investigating. Moncton offers a bulk waste collection program that operates on a rotating five-week pickup schedule for residents who apply for the service. Richard said it’s been pretty quiet across the street lately, but he did see some people bringing items to the curb earlier this month. “People seemed to be moving out, and they put a whole bunch of stuff out to the curb and then afterwards they just disappeared. No movement ever since,” said Richard. “A lot of people around here are pretty much tired of seeing that.” Another neighbour believes the house is vacant and is in the process of being put up for sale. CTV News knocked on the door of the residence early and mid-afternoon Wednesday, but no one came to the door and there was no car parked in the driveway.
