A 17-year-old girl was arrested after allegedly making social media posts about engaging in school shootings in northern Alberta. Police say they received a tip related to a social media post on May 22. No specific location was mentioned. Following an investigation, the 17-year-old girl, a resident of Fort McKay, was arrested in relation to the threat. She was later released on an undertaking with conditions. Since mid June, Mounties received more tips related to similar threats from an unknown user on social media to engage in non-specific shootings at schools, daycare or malls. Police say it was found that the teen arrested in May was the same to make the additional posts. A search warrant was conducted at the Fort McKay residence on June 26 where police located an Airsoft pistol, a rifle-style pellet gun, a .22 caliber rifle, and electronic devices. The teen was arrested again and faces indecent communication charges. She was released from custody on a release order with conditions and is to appear in court on July 7. Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the teen cannot be named.
