Oilers acquire goalie Ingram from Mammoth for future considerations

The Edmonton Oilers acquired goalie Connor Ingram from the Utah Mammoth on Wednesday. Ingram will start the season in the AHL on the Oilers' farm team.

The Edmonton Oilers’ goalie crease became a little more crowded on Wednesday morning, when the National Hockey League team announced it had acquired goaltender Connor Ingram from the Utah Mammoth for future considerations.

The Mammoth last week waived Ingram, who didn’t attend Utah’s training camp this year.

The 28-year-old entered the league’s and players’ association’s assistance program in March after his mother’s death from breast cancer and hasn’t played since late February. He cleared the program in late August.

Ingram joins Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard on the Oilers’ goaltending roster. Chances are Ingram will start the season in the American Hockey League with the Bakersfield Condors, the Oilers’ primary minor-league affiliate.

He went 9-8-4 in 22 starts for the Mammoth last season, putting up a 3.27 goals-against average and an .882 save percentage in 22 starts.

The season before, he played 50 games for the franchise, starting 48 of them, going 23-21-3 with a 2.91 goals-against average, a .907 save percentage and six shutouts.

Utah is retaining $800,000 of Ingram’s annual $1.95-million salary.

Ingram, a native of Saskatoon, starred in junior hockey for the Kamloops Blazers and was drafted in the third round, 88th overall, by the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2017.

The Lightning traded him to the Nashville Predators two years later and was claimed off waivers by the Arizona Coyotes, who are now the Mammoth, in 2022.

He won the NHL’s Masterton Trophy, which recognizes the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey, in the 2023-24 season.
