Edmonton activated its extreme weather response at 9 a.m. on Thursday. It will last until 9 a.m. March 4 unless a change in weather prompts the city to revise it. Weather conditions are expected to flip to stormy Thursday afternoon. CTV Edmonton meteorologist Josh Classen is forecasting precipitation, wind gusts in the 30 km/h to 50 km/h range, and temperatures to plummet to -20 C by Saturday morning. When the city enacts an extreme weather response, people needing to warm up can do so in city facilities open to the public, like rec centres and libraries, during their regular hours of operation. It also means that a third overnight shuttle to homeless shelters will be added to the north route. Although the Al Rashid Mosque typically provides additional shelter spaces during extreme winter events, it is unable to do so this time because of Ramadan.
