Edmonton weather: Deep freeze eases through the weekend

Cory Edel's forecast shows warming through the weekend, after a little bit of snow.

Cold and snowy in the Edmonton region today. Most of the heavier snowfall will in southern Alberta and the mountains/foothills.

But, we’ll probably see some flurries or light snow starting midday and continuing through the afternoon.

It doesn’t look like we’ll get any significant accumulation - anywhere from a dusting to maybe a centimetre or two.

No significant snowfall over the weekend, just a slight chance of a few flurries late Saturday and midday Sunday.

Most/all of the weekend snow will be in northwestern Alberta and Sunday’s band of snow should be north of Edmonton as it stretches from around Slave Lake east towards Cold Lake.

Temperatures will be stuck in the -20s again today. But, the wind should be calm for most of the day.

We may see a 10 km/h breeze develop this afternoon and that would give some -28’ish wind chills for this afternoon.

But...on the whole, it’ll be a lot calmer than yesterday and tomorrow.

Saturday will start off calm, but a 15-20 km/h wind will pick up through the afternoon (with gusts around 30 km/h).

We’ll start Saturday in the -25 C to -30 C range on thermometers (without much of a wind chill).

Temperatures climb to the -14 C range in the afternoon Saturday, but wind chills will be in the -25 range all afternoon.

So...it’s not really until Sunday that it gets noticeably milder.

Temperatures will rise Saturday night and we’ll be in the -10 C range by Sunday morning and hold steady in the -8 C to -10 C range through the day.

Monday’s still looking like the one REALLY WARM day. Most of the forecast models are now bumping temperatures above 0 C for Edmonton on Monday so I’ll follow suit.

BUT...it’s a one-and-done.

Colder air starts to drop back in on Tuesday and we’ll be right back to highs in the minus teens by Wednesday and the -20s by Thursday/Friday of next week.
