Edmonton streetcar to bring holiday cheer with Christmas Car service

The Edmonton Radial Railway Society (ERRS) is once again running its Christmas Car service starting Nov. 28 until Dec. 21.

Riders can jump on the 113-year-old car for a scenic 45-minute round trip with views of downtown, the legislature and the river valley

Decorated with lights and holiday ornaments, the streetcar will run from the Strathcona Barn, through the tunnel – with festive surprises – across the High Level Bridge and back.

Being that the trip is on the original car built in 1912, it is not barrier free and does not have modern heat. Riders are asked to be ready to climb steps to get on and off the car and dress appropriately for the weather.

Tickets are $10 and available exclusively through the ERRS website. The Christmas Car will run Fridays to Sundays at 12 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.

One-hour private charters are available to book at $400 with a maximum of 36 people per party. The ride includes a lengthy stop on top of the High Level Bridge. Reservation details are available here.

The ERRS will also hold a free service on Nov. 29 during the Whyte Winter Light Up festival and will operate between Strathcona and the tunnel.
