The Edmonton Elks went to the city’s food bank on Tuesday after practice for yet another competition. The team was sorting donations ahead of the Purolator Tackle Hunger Drive in support of Edmonton’s Food Bank. On Saturday, the Elks host the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Commonwealth Stadium for a special food drive-edition match. Spectators will be asked to bring a non-perishable food item to the game. Donations can also be made ahead of time online. Last year’s food drive saw fans raise the equivalent of more than 26,000 meals for Edmonton’s Food Bank. Elks CEO Chris Morris hopes every fan will have something to give. “This is honestly one of the best ways people can give back, because there are people who desperately need it. I think when people recognize that, and you see the number of volunteers that come here, it’s just a wonderful thing for our city,” he said on Tuesday.
