A 30-year-old woman whose licence was already suspended is facing more legal trouble after police received a report last week of a sleeping driver on Highway 11 in northwestern Ontario. Members of the Greenstone Ontario Provincial Police responded around 4:13 p.m. on July 24. Police received a request for “a wellness check on a driver and passenger in a motor vehicle that appeared to be sleeping on the side of Highway 11 between Camp 25 Road and Eldee Road,” the OPP said in a news release July 28. “Through investigation, it was determined that the driver of the motor vehicle had been impaired by alcohol/drug. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Greenstone OPP detachment for further testing.” The woman from Aroland was charged with impaired driving, driving while prohibited, failing to have proof of insurance and having open liquor in the vehicle. The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Geraldton on Aug. 13.
