Crews respond to fire at abandoned commercial building in central Edmonton

The city of Edmonton says crews responded to a fire at a "run down commercial building" at 93 Street and 111 Avenue Sunday morning.

Crews were seen responding to a fire in central Edmonton Sunday afternoon.

A City of Edmonton official said fire services received a report of a fire at a “run down commercial building” at 93 Street and 111 Avenue around 7:30 a.m.

No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

The fire was declared out at 2:22 p.m.

In a post to social media, The Aviary, a neighbouring music venue, said the fire was contained to the empty commercial building next door.

“We’re just waiting on some reports and what insurance says about it all,” said the post. “Shall we have a serious talk about problematic abandoned commercial property in (Edmonton)?”
