The city and Edmonton Police Service (EPS) will be making an announcement Wednesday on their plans to address abandoned vehicles. The overflow tow lot at 122 Street and 124 Avenue was recently re-opened to address the backlog of 560 abandoned vehicles. It was previously closed to accommodate construction of the Yellowhead Freeway Conversion Program. Ward Anirniq Coun. Erin Rutherford submitted a formal letter to the Edmonton Police Commission, asking it to relocate the EPS tow lot. Residents across the city have submitted complaints to 311 after dozens of vehicles have been left for days on end without being ticketed or towed. The city considers a vehicle to be abandoned if it has not been moved from a public street for more than 72 consecutive hours. The vehicle owner is then given a 72-hour warning notice. If the vehicle is not moved within the 72-hour notice, it may be ticketed and towed.
