Canada Post office in Edson closed for nearly 2 weeks due to water leak

The Canada Post office in Edson has been closed since Jan. 29 because of a leak.

“A water leak from another tenant’s space above the post office from overnight into Thursday, Jan. 29 was the cause of the Edson Post Office closure,” Canada Post spokesperson Phil Legault wrote in an email to CTV News Edmonton on Wednesday.

Legault says the work was expected to be completed on Jan. 30.

“Unfortunately, as repair assessments were made throughout that following weekend the work was more extensive than anticipated. We posted a sign on the post office door advising customers that the post office was temporarily closed, including mail delivery and pick-ups, due to unforeseen circumstances,” he said.

“We continue to work with the building’s landlord and contractors on reopening the post office as safely as possible.”

While work continues at the post office, Legault says Canada Post is working to resume mail processing and delivery, possibly by the end of the week.

Mail destined for Edson is being held at a secure processing plant, and Legault says mail and parcels that were at the post office at the time of the leak were not damaged.

“We understand the importance of the postal services we provide to the Edson community, and we take that very seriously,” he wrote.

Customers can access Canada Post services at the post office in the Edson Convenience Store at 5609 13 Avenue from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon.
