Cactus Rats field to open with capacity of 150

The Energy City Cactus Rats will soon be seen by spectators, but only a handful.

In a post to social media Sunday, the club announced it had procured a facility occupancy permit for the Energy City Metro Ballpark, allowing use of the field for games with an occupancy of 150 people.

A meeting will be held by the Western Canadian Baseball League to determine if the field meets league standards.

If all goes well, the Cactus Rats will host a game Wednesday night.

“With respect to fan involvement, construction continues and it is hoped that additional occupancy allowing fans into the facility can be achieved within the next two to four weeks,” said the club on social media.

The ballpark has been under construction for the last three years.
