Arson charges laid in northern Alberta house fires

A woman has been charged in connection with two house fires in northern Alberta on Wednesday.

Emergency crews were called about the fires on two lots on Chipewyan Prairie First Nation at 12:36 a.m. Wednesday.

When crews arrived, one house had been destroyed and a second was engulfed in flames.

The house suffered significant damage before firefighters were able to put out the flames.

A 20-year-old resident of the First Nation has since been charged with one count of break-and-enter and two counts of arson.

She has been released on conditions and will appear in court in Fort McMurray on Sept. 24.
