The Alberta Velodrome Association (AVA) is offering camps for youth over the summer at the Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre. Camp activities include an introduction to track cycling, mobility and movement skills, court sports and team games, athletic development and physical literacy, and confidence-building challenges and activities. “Our camp helps youth develop athletic skills, reach important developmental milestones, and build a foundation for lifelong participation in sport and physical activity,” said the association. The week-long camps are offered by the AVA for youth ages 11 to 15. Campgoers are asked to bring a helmet, comfortable athletic clothing, cycling shoes and pedals if available, cycling gloves, a water bottle, and snacks. The camp is not a learn-to-ride program and participants must be comfortable riding a two-wheel bicycle independently. Camps start the week of July 6 and cost $275. The final week will be that of Aug. 17.
