1 charged in northern Alberta gas station hit-and-run

One man is facing charges in connection with a hit-and-run that killed a man at a gas station in Peace River, Alta.

Police identified 74-year-old Hashi Guled as the man found dead early Thursday morning at the gas pumps of a Petro Canada on 78 Street.

Alberta RCMP say he was hit two hours before police were called.

Mounties previously recovered a stolen van believed to have run over the man.

Daniel Michel Campion, 37, was arrested and charged with manslaughter, criminal negligence causing death and dangerous driving causing death after further investigation.

He remains in custody after being brought before a Justice of the Peace. His next court date is set for May 25 in Peace River.

In a Saturday news release, Mounties thanks the public for “helpful tips” that led to his identification.
