Three youths have been charged in connection with several cannabis store robberies in 2023. Police initially launched their investigation after a robbery at a Four20 cannabis shop, located at 2008 33 Ave. S.W., on Nov. 14, 2023. Suspects assaulted staff members and fled the scene with cannabis products. Police responded to the area but couldn’t find the suspects. Similar robberies occurred at other cannabis stores around the city later that month, police said. Investigators identified three suspects and conducted searches at homes related to the suspects on Dec. 11, 2023. Police seized clothing and cellphones for analysis, which eventually connected the suspects to multiple robberies, dating back to February 2023. One of the suspects, an 18 year old, turned himself in to police on Oct. 23, 2024. He was charged with four counts of robbery with a firearm. Then in December 2024, charges were laid against two other males, aged 17 and 18, who are now wanted on warrants. They were each charged with: 10 counts of robbery with a prohibited firearm; 10 counts of disguise with intent; Seven counts of forcible confinement; One count of assault causing bodily harm; and One count of theft of a motor vehicle. The teens were under 18 at the time of the offences and cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
