Mounties say charges have been laid against an Alberta man they say impersonated a police officer, going as far as equipping a vehicle with lights, signage and other equipment. On Jan. 8, Three Hills RCMP were told about a suspicious vehicle seen near the village of Elnora, a community about 172 kilometres northeast of Calgary. Officers later located an older model Ford Crown Victoria parked outside a home. Police say the vehicle appeared to have a badge on the bumper that read “police interceptor.” “Further investigation revealed the same vehicle had been seen on Oct. 17, 2025, near Sylvan Lake, driving at a high rate of speed with blue lights flashing. Two drivers reported the vehicle and stated they initially believed it was a police vehicle,” RCMP said in a news release Friday. RCMP obtained a warrant and seized the vehicle, which was later searched. Police found the sedan was also equipped with a fully functional siren and public address system. RCMP say the accused obtained the car, which was a decommissioned police vehicle, and equipped it with “police style equipment.” Randy Telford, 64, is charged with impersonating a police officer. He is scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on April 17. Meanwhile, Three Hills RCMP believe there may be additional complaints about the vehicle at the centre of the investigation.
