Several homes damaged in large fire in Cochrane’s Heartland neighbourhood

Fire officials are investigating the cause of a large fire in Cochrane, west of Calgary, on Thursday.

The Town of Cochrane said Friday that several homes were damaged in a fire in Heartland.

Several multi-unit homes were affected in the blaze.

Responding crews safely rescued a cat from one of the homes, which is now in the care of a veterinarian.

The town said the situation is “distressing and disruptive” to all involved.

“Our hearts go out to those families and individuals affected by this fire. On behalf of the community, I want to thank our emergency responders, Town teams and partner agencies for responding so quickly and working together to keep people safe,” said Cochrane Mayor Morgan Nagel in a news release.

The Canadian Red Cross is working to help all affected residents, the town said.
