Plans in place for more travel time signs

The signs are already up along Deerfoot Trail and shows drivers how long it takes to get to the airport and other exits.

The city is moving to make the stop and go traffic along two major arteries easier to take and is erecting electronic billboards to broadcast travel times to motorists.

Electronic time travel signs are already in place along Deerfoot Trail and soon drivers will also see them on Glenmore and Crowchild trails.

The city will install two signs on Glenmore Trail; one northbound near Deerfoot Trail and the other on eastbound Glenmore at Crowchild Trail.

There will also be three signs placed along Crowchild Trail;  one northbound near Glenmore Trail, one southbound near 24 Avenue and a third southbound near Flanders Avenue.

The signs are part of an initiative to give drivers the information they need to make decisions on the road.

The five new signs will give travellers the estimated drive times to common destinations or exits and the city says so far the signs are getting good reviews from drivers.

"We find drivers saying really helpful in terms of helping them know what to expect in terms of their wait times. They really decrease driver frustration and also just help people make informed decisions on which routes to take," said Julie Yepishina-Geller from the City of Calgary Roads Department.

The city hopes to have the five new signs installed by the end of the month, depending on the weather.
