Guelph police have arrested a man who they say swapped out expensive products for cheaper ones at self-checkouts. On Feb. 7, the man allegedly targeted four businesses within a one-hour period. Police said he would take cases of baby formula, which were priced at $97, and then head to the self-checkout. Instead of scanning the bar code on the baby formula, the man allegedly swapped them out for items less than $1. Police said the stores lost nearly $1,000 in products. A 24-year-old from Brampton was arrested on Friday and charged with seven counts of fraud under $5,000.
