Family strives to carry on after Calgary mother murdered

Hue Ngoc Nguyen was found dead in her home on May 25, her husband is charged with first degree murder and family is trying to support her children.

Nguyen’s niece says she was a wonderful mother.

“I lost my mom when I was younger and she treated me like her own child and I saw her as my mom,” said Michelle Nguyen. “Even if you didn't know her personally you can see her radiance shining from her, because she was so wonderful.”

Nguyen's common law husband, Hien Tuan Lam, is charged with first degree murder in her death and attempted murder in the shooting of the couple's 15-year-old daughter. Lam fled in his truck with the couple's 11-year-old daughter and a three-year-old son but later surrendered to police. The children are all staying with relatives.

“Seeing the situation, they're doing pretty good,” said Michelle Nguyen. “They're like my siblings because we were so close so I'm also doing what I can to support them.”
