Daytime highs in the double-digits to start the weekend, with snow returning Sunday

A weekend of double-digit temperatures. Jodi Hughes has a look at the five-day forecast from the Sky Watch Weather Centre.

As is typical of spring, rapid snow melt will occur over the next couple of days as southern Alberta sits under a ridge of high pressure.

Warmer west winds will flow across the Rockies, especially in the south, and daytime highs will reach the double-digits including in Calgary.

Temperatures in Calgary will sit above freezing overnight on Friday and Saturday and both days will include a mix of sun and cloud.

A frontal system will track from northwest to southeast across Alberta on Sunday introducing colder air and snow.

Strong north wind and mixed precipitation will be among the first signs of this changing pattern. This might prove problematic in areas where water has pooled in the wake of snow melt as surfaces have the potential to quickly ice up.

Calgary is expecting a total accumulation of between three to five centimetres of snow.

A large polar air mass will perch over the northern border of the provinces and persistent zonal flow across the southern border will produce lower daytime highs and lows starting Monday.
