Cute canine welcomed to Calgary

Meg is an eight-week-old Labrador Puppy from Australia.

BC and Alberta Guide Dog Services officials were at the Calgary International Airport on Tuesday to pickup the newest member of their team.

Meg is an eight-week-old Labrador Puppy from B.C..

The golden haired pup will spend the next year and a half with a foster family, training to be a helper for a blind, visually-impaired person or person with autism.

"It's a good opportunity to give back and do something for someone else. Meg will be going to someone who needs her," said Puppy Raiser, Rhonda Pickering.

The program covers the cost of dog food, vet care and other basic necessities.

The puppies take part in the Puppy Raising program and enter advanced training when they are about 15-months-old.

More puppies will be arriving in April and BC and Alberta Guide Dog Services is looking for more training families.
