Calgary police say a man in his 30s is in critical condition after a Wednesday shooting they are describing as a “brazen act of violence.” Police were called to Connaught Park in the city’s southwest just before 4 p.m. Upon arrival, police discovered a man in his 30s suffering from gunshot wounds. They say he was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he remains in care with life-altering injuries. “This was a brazen act of violence in a public space,” says Acting Staff Sgt. Cory Der. “These are places where people should feel safe walking their dogs and enjoying their community. We recognize how unsettling this is for residents and are committed to holding those responsible accountable.” Several people were taken into custody for questioning but were released after investigators determined they were not involved. Police say one additional person was taken into custody. The investigating is still in its early stages, police say.
